Application crash via exponential URL regex
Published Oct 18, 2023 · Updated Sep 13, 2024
Regular expression denial of service in DedSecInside TorBot before 4.0.0 allows physically proximate attackers to crash it via a crafted URL. The torbot.modules.validators.validate_link function passes the URL argument to python-validators, whose regex has exponential worst-case complexity. Reachability requires supplying a URL argument directly to a TorBot invocation; the resulting CPU exhaustion hangs or crashes that process without reported data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
