Code execution via unchecked lockfile package identity
Published Oct 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Improper input validation in PDM 2.0.0 through 2.9.3 allows attackers to install substituted packages through a malicious lockfile. PDM and unearth accept a distribution filename whose project name merely prefixes the expected name without verifying its parsed version and identity. A user or CI job must install from the crafted pdm.lock; the substituted package can execute arbitrary code during installation or force a dependency downgrade.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
