OS command injection in BUFFALO VR-S1000 firmware 2.37 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. On the network diagnostics page, /www/cgi-bin/platform.fcgi passes the unvalidated pingTarget POST value to the ping command, allowing shell metacharacters to invoke arbitrary Linux commands. The attacker must reach and log in to the web management interface; successful exploitation gives root-level control of the router.
