CVE-2023-45662Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Heap data disclosure via mismatched pixel stride

Published Oct 20, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in stb_image 2.28 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to disclose heap data through a crafted GIF. stbi_load_gif_from_memory converts pixels to req_comp but passes the original component count to stbi__vertical_flip, causing memcpy to use an oversized row stride. Reachability requires vertical flipping, a requested component count different from the GIF output, and an application that processes attacker-controlled images.
