Encrypted Elasticsearch password disclosure through debug logs
Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 30, 2024
Sensitive-data logging in Fortinet FortiSIEM allows local authenticated users to read an encrypted Elasticsearch password from debug logs. When Elasticsearch Event Storage is configured, FortiSIEM writes the storage password in encrypted form into generated debug log files instead of excluding the credential. The issue requires local log access and affects 5.3.0 through 5.3.3, 5.4.0, 6.1.0 through 6.1.2, 6.2.0 through 6.2.1, 6.3.0 through 6.3.3, 6.4.0 through 6.4.2, 6.5.0 through 6.5.1, 6.6.0 through 6.6.3, 6.7.0 through 6.7.6, and 7.0.0.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
