Browser script execution via unescaped search query
Published Oct 16, 2023 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Reflected XSS in mooSocial 3.1.8 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through a crafted Search URL. The Search function reflects the q query parameter into the results page without neutralizing HTML, allowing injected script tags to become executable markup. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted URL; the script runs in the mooSocial origin and can read accessible session data or act through the user's account.
