Privileged API access via hard-coded credentials
Published Oct 27, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Vinchin Backup & Recovery 5.0 through 7.0 allow remote attackers to access its privileged HTTP API. The API authentication path accepts a credential embedded across installations and bypasses normal ACLs, exposing administrative operations for storage, backups, jobs, cloud accounts, hypervisors, and users. Network access to /api/ and knowledge of the shared credential are sufficient to read, modify, or delete protected backup-system data and configuration.
