Deleted revision metadata disclosure via incomplete permission check
Published Oct 9, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024
Information disclosure in MediaWiki 1.36.0 through 1.39.4 and 1.40.0 allows remote attackers to read deleted revision metadata. Article.php asks RevisionArchiveRecord::userCan() about revision-deletion visibility without checking whether the requester may view revisions of a deleted page. An unauthenticated oldid request reveals that a revision ID belonged to a page title and discloses its timestamp, but not the deleted content.
