Suppressed-username disclosure via visibility-blind revision counting
Published Nov 3, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Information disclosure in MediaWiki before 1.35.12, 1.36.0 through 1.39.4, and 1.40.0 discloses suppressed usernames to remote authenticated users. DifferenceEngine counts intermediate revisions without filtering users hidden from the viewer, then emits the same-user summary from that unfiltered count. Access to revision comparisons is required; the notice reveals that suppressed intermediate edits share an author but does not expose revision content.
