CVE-2023-45312Network attack vector

Remote command execution via default Erlang distribution cookie

Published Oct 10, 2023 · Updated Sep 18, 2024

Code injection in Erlang mtproto_proxy 0.7.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute commands through exposed Erlang distribution. The shipped vm.args.example binds the Erlang node to 0.0.0.0 and hardcodes the shared cookie mtproto-proxy-cookie, enabling distributed Erlang RPC. An installation created from that default and reachable on Erlang distribution ports accepts the known cookie, granting command execution as the proxy service account.
