CVE-2023-45311Network attack vector

Arbitrary code execution via untrusted binary host

Published Oct 6, 2023 · Updated Nov 26, 2024

Code injection in fsevents before 1.2.11 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through a compromised binary-download host. The package's node-pre-gyp configuration directed its install script to retrieve and load native modules from an external S3 host without authenticating the publisher of the returned code. Exploitation requires adversary control of that host when a dependent JavaScript project obtains and redistributes the binary; the CVE record notes that the host is no longer adversary-controlled.
