CVE-2023-45284Network attack vector

Path-safety bypass via reserved device name misclassification

Published Nov 9, 2023 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Improper path validation in Go standard library path/filepath before 1.20.11 and 1.21.0 through 1.21.3 allows attackers to bypass locality checks. On Windows, IsLocal treats reserved device names with trailing spaces or COM/LPT plus superscript 1, 2, or 3 as local instead of rejecting them. Impact depends on a consuming application trusting IsLocal for untrusted paths; such input can bypass its path-safety boundary.
