CVE-2023-45168

Local command execution via invscout buffer bounds flaw

Published Dec 1, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Memory-buffer bounds error in IBM AIX 7.2 and 7.3 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands through the invscout command. IBM maps the flaw to CWE-119 but has not disclosed the affected routine, attacker-controlled input, or incorrect buffer operation. The attack requires local access by a non-privileged user and yields arbitrary command execution, with no network-only path described.
