Local privilege escalation through piodmgrsu
Published Dec 13, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Privilege escalation in IBM AIX 7.2, 7.3, and VIOS 3.1 allows local users to obtain elevated privileges through piodmgrsu. IBM identifies the vulnerable locus as the piodmgrsu command in the printers system but has not disclosed the incorrect operation on attacker-controlled input. Exploitation requires non-privileged local access, and successful use grants elevated privileges with resulting confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
