Plugin-dependent data compromise via arbitrary custom fields
Published Oct 16, 2023 · Updated Sep 13, 2024
Improper input validation in affected Discourse releases allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary topic custom-field keys. The topic-creation parameter filter accepted attacker-chosen field names rather than limiting input to registered editable topic fields. Any account able to create a topic reaches the flaw; default plugins have no impact, so consequences require a plugin that trusts those fields.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=<= 3.1.1
- Affected versionversion=beta: <= 3.2.0.beta2
