NVRAM variable writes via out-of-bounds read
Published Nov 8, 2023 · Updated Sep 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Lenovo BIOS firmware allows local users with elevated privileges to write NVRAM variables through SWSMI_Shadow DXE. The SWSMI_Shadow DXE driver reads beyond the intended buffer; Lenovo has not published the affected buffer, input path, or value flow. Exploitation requires elevated local access and can alter firmware-backed NVRAM state; no pre-authentication network path is reported.
