CVE-2023-44821Public exploit

Memory consumption via repeated crop-option allocations

Published Oct 9, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Resource exhaustion in Gifsicle 1.94 and earlier allows local users to consume memory through repeated crop options. The command-line parser accepts repeated --crop assignments and retains a 48-byte allocation from Gif_Realloc for each one instead of releasing prior state. The claim requires control of an entire command line in a long-running unattended deployment, a usage model multiple parties dispute as unrealistic.
