Root command execution via diagnostic command validation
Published Dec 29, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
OS command injection in Poly voice-device firmware allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands as root through diagnostic Telnet. After an administrator enables diagnostic Telnet by importing configuration, at least two restricted diagnostic commands fail to validate attacker-controlled input before passing it to the operating system. The web server must be enabled, administrative device access is required, and successful injection grants root-level control of the phone.
