Root code execution via unchecked stack copy
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in TP-Link Archer A54 firmware allows remote authenticated users on an adjacent network to execute code as root. The dm_fillObjByStr code in libcmm.so copies user-controlled data into a fixed-length stack buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires authenticated access from an adjacent network and grants control of the router in the root context.
