Code execution via oversized PSP palette count
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Integer overflow in GIMP before 2.10.36 allows remote attackers to execute code by inducing a user to open a crafted PSP file. The PSP plug-in's read_color_block function trusts the file-supplied palette-entry count, multiplies it by four for allocation and input, and can wrap the size before writing to memory. Exploitation requires user interaction and runs code in the context of the GIMP process; a malformed file can also crash that process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
