Stored XSS via unsanitized SVG uploads
Published Nov 29, 2023 · Updated Jun 5, 2025
Stored XSS in October CMS 3.0.0 through 3.5.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts via a Media Manager SVG upload. The Media Manager stores supported SVG content without removing scripts unless clean_vectors is enabled, so a later view executes the embedded payload. Exploitation requires Media Manager access, SVG support, disabled sanitization, and a backend user who views the stored file; the script runs in that user's browser context.
