CVE-2023-4433Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Stored script execution via incorrect MIME inspection

Published Aug 19, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024

Stored XSS in Cockpit CMS before 2.6.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser through an asset upload. The Assets upload handler calls finfo_file on a destination path derived from the submitted filename rather than on the actual temporary upload, so forbidden HTML MIME content can pass validation and be stored. A user with asset-upload permission must submit the file, and execution occurs when another user opens the stored asset, allowing same-origin access to data and actions available to that user.
