Script execution via unescaped API viewer attributes
Published Aug 19, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Reflected XSS in Cockpit CMS before 2.6.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through its REST or GraphQL viewer. The viewer templates insert API keys, an OpenAPI URL, and color values into HTML attributes or CSS without escaping attacker-controlled characters. Exploitation requires access to a viewer and causes injected script to run in the browser context that renders the crafted values.
