Root access via PPOE command injection
Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated Nov 21, 2024
OS command injection in Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance DM5500 5.14 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain root access. The PPOE component permits command injection, but Dell has not disclosed the affected function or how untrusted input reaches an operating-system command. Low-privileged appliance access is required; successful exploitation escapes the restricted shell and grants root control of the appliance.
