CVE-2023-44194

Root backdoor creation via writable system directory

Published Oct 12, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Incorrect default permissions in affected Juniper Networks Junos OS releases allow local users to create a root-privileged backdoor. A system directory ships with permissions that let an unauthenticated local user write the files needed to establish persistent root access. Physical or existing local access to the device is required; the published record does not identify the directory or disclose a safe read-only indicator.
