Network disruption via bypassed MAC address validation
Published Oct 11, 2023 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Origin validation errors in Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved allow network-adjacent attackers to bypass MAC address checks. On affected PTX10001, PTX10004, PTX10008, and PTX10016 devices, MAC validation forwards unintended addresses when a valid route exists. This unauthenticated adjacent-network condition can create a layer-2 loop and congestion, disrupting downstream traffic without exposing data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
