CVE-2023-44188Network attack vector

Authenticated service interruption via stale-memory race

Published Oct 11, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

TOCTOU race in Juniper Networks Junos OS allows remote authenticated users to crash jkdsd through concurrent telemetry requests. The drend daemon defers overloaded telemetry work, after which stale memory is accessed and the jkdsd process crashes and restarts. Multiple collectors with valid credentials can repeatedly trigger the race to sustain the service interruption; SRX Series devices lack jkdsd and are unaffected.
