CVE-2023-44181Network attack vector

Network disruption via ICMPv6 ARP queue misrouting

Published Oct 12, 2023 · Updated Sep 18, 2024

Denial of service in storm control in Juniper Networks Junos OS on QFX5k devices allows remote attackers to disrupt switching via ICMPv6 traffic. The storm-control security check incorrectly punts ICMPv6 packets to the ARP queue, creating a Layer 2 loop that triggers DDoS violations and syslog events. Exposure requires storm control to be enabled in an EVPN/VXLAN environment; the documented consequence is loss of network stability, not data disclosure or modification.
