Sustained routing outage via PIM-triggered rpd assertion
Published Oct 12, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024
Reachable assertion in rpd in Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows remote attackers to crash rpd via PIM packets. The daemon evaluates a reachable assertion while processing a specific genuine PIM packet and terminates; the assertion condition is undisclosed. PIM must be enabled, and repeated delivery sustains the outage, although Juniper reports no observed issue in all-Juniper networks.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
