Stored script execution via unsanitized category name
Published Sep 27, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in SourceCodester Expense Tracker App 1.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in another user's browser. The add_category.php endpoint accepts a category_name value containing script markup, stores it, and later displays the category without adequate output encoding. An account that can add a category is required, and exploitation requires another user to view the stored category; the demonstrated consequence is browser-context script execution.
