Stored XSS via unneutralized frontend settings
Published Sep 26, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024
Stored XSS in Black Cat CMS 1.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in visitors' browsers through frontend settings. The handler in upload/backend/settings/index.php stores the Website header or footer value without neutralizing embedded HTML or script, and page rendering returns it as active content. An attacker must save frontend settings and induce another user to view a page, exposing that viewer's browser session to script-driven data access or page modification.
