CVE-2023-43907Public exploit

CLI crash via out-of-bounds GIF buffer read

Published Oct 1, 2023 · Updated Sep 23, 2024

Global buffer overflow in OptiPNG 0.7.7 allows context-dependent attackers to crash the CLI by processing a crafted GIF file. The GIF LZW reader in gifread.c reads one byte immediately beyond the 280-byte static buffer because it does not check the buffer boundary before access. Processing the crafted file is required; special command-line flags are unnecessary, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
