CVE-2023-43636

Device takeover via unmeasured rootfs replacement

Published Sep 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024

Measured-boot bypass in LF Edge EVE-OS allows physically proximate attackers to gain full device control by replacing the root filesystem. The boot chain omits the rootfs image from the TPM PCR measurements used to seal the vault key, so a repackaged squashfs retains accepted values. Physical storage access is required; the altered system passes measured-boot attestation and exposes encrypted vault data.
