Terminal manipulation via unescaped received filenames
Published Sep 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024
Terminal escape injection in Croc before 9.6.16 allows attackers to manipulate a receiver's terminal via a crafted filename. The receiver's processMessageFileInfo path accepted sender-supplied names without filtering and printed them to stdout, where ANSI or CSI sequences were interpreted as terminal controls. A receiver must join the sender's transfer and accept it; effects include concealed transfer output and, with an insecure terminal emulator, code execution.
