Stored XSS via unescaped caption
Published Sep 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Jenkins 2.423 and earlier and LTS 2.414.1 and earlier allows attackers to execute script via crafted caption values. The ExpandableDetailsNote constructor inserts its caption parameter without escaping before rendering build-log annotations, allowing attacker-controlled markup to persist. The gate is the ability to supply a caption value; Jenkins states that this API is not used in core, so impact is limited to deployments or plugins that invoke it.
