CVE-2023-43488

Privileged shell via exposed network ADB

Published Oct 25, 2023 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Missing authorization in ctrlX HMI Web Panel WR21 before build 20231107 allows low-privileged applications to gain a privileged shell via network-exposed ADB. The Android Agent permits an untrusted application to change a protected system property that controls ADB exposure, causing the daemon to listen over the network instead of requiring USB. A local application must already run on the device; once ADB is exposed, an attacker on the reachable network can obtain the privileged shell, with confidentiality, integrity, and limited availability impact.
