Stored script execution via unsanitized global metadata
Published Oct 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Stored XSS in CMS Made Simple 2.2.18 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through the Global Metadata setting. The Global Settings form stores the Global Metadata value without neutralizing event-handler markup, and the payload runs when a user loads the public page. An attacker needs access to the administration panel and a victim must load the affected page; the demonstrated consequence is script execution in the victim's browser.
