Stored script execution via unsanitized News Extra field
Published Oct 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in CMS Made Simple 2.2.18 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through the News Extra field. The News editor stores the Extra parameter without adequate sanitization and later renders it into a public page, where the browser executes the injected payload. Authenticated access to the content panel is required to plant the payload, and a later page visit triggers execution in the visitor's browser.
