Code execution via exception-handler-chain corruption
Published Oct 19, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024
Memory corruption in XnSoft NConvert 7.136 allows attackers to crash the process or execute code by processing a crafted image file. The image-processing path performs an invalid byte write at nconvert+0x8625e, corrupting the Structured Exception Handler chain. Execution requires a victim or automated workflow to pass the malicious image to the Windows executable; the demonstrated result is an access-violation crash, while the published assessment classifies the corruption as exploitable.
