Script execution via unsafe Markdown forum links
Published Nov 2, 2023 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Submitty before 22.06.00 allows remote attackers to execute script through a crafted forum link. The forum's CommonMarkConverter left allow_unsafe_links enabled, so attacker-controlled javascript: destinations became executable anchors in rendered posts. A victim must click the link; the script then runs in the Submitty origin with access to data and actions available to that browser session.
