Administrator takeover via loose password-hash comparison
Published Sep 26, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024
Authentication bypass in Macrob7 Macs Framework CMS 1.1.4f allows remote attackers to take over an administrator account via login. The isValidLogin() function in /Application/plugins/CMS/controllers/CMS.php uses PHP loose equality for supplied and stored MD5 password hashes, treating magic hashes as equal. Exploitation requires a known administrator username or a zero-like username and a supplied password whose MD5 digest is a magic hash; successful login grants the administrator session.
