Root code execution via tar option injection
Published Oct 10, 2023 · Updated Dec 16, 2025
OS command injection in affected Fortinet FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer releases allows local users to execute unauthorized code through CLI arguments. The diagnose system export umlog and fmwslog commands pass an attacker-controlled archive filename to tar, allowing --checkpoint-action to launch a root shell. The published exploit requires CLI access with the System Settings privilege and yields commands running as root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
