CVE-2023-42552

Database tampering via hijacked implicit intent

Published Nov 7, 2023 · Updated Sep 12, 2024

Implicit intent hijacking in Samsung Firewall on Android 11–13 allows local users to alter its database through a third-party app. Firewall sends a database-affecting intercomponent message as an implicit intent, allowing another installed app to receive or alter it instead of restricting delivery to the intended component. Affected builds precede 12.1.00.24 on Android 11, 13.1.00.16 on Android 12, and 14.1.00.7 on Android 13; exploitation requires user interaction.
