CVE-2023-42524Network attack vector

Remote scanning interruption via infinite processing loop

Published Sep 18, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024

Denial of service in affected WithSecure antivirus scanning engines allows remote attackers to interrupt file scanning operations. When certain undisclosed file types are processed, the scanner enters a long infinite loop instead of terminating the scan. Delivery into a remotely reachable scanning path is sufficient to hang the engine; WithSecure has not disclosed the parser or file formats involved.
