Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted user metadata
Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in Real Estate Manager 7.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to grant themselves the administrator role. The rem_save_profile_front function accepts the wp_capabilities parameter during profile updates and writes it as user metadata without restricting protected role keys. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to replace the caller's capabilities and gain administrative control of the WordPress site.
