CVE-2023-4235Network attack vector

Remote code execution via unchecked SMS PDU length

Published Apr 17, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in oFono on Fedora Linux allows remote attackers to execute code through a crafted SMS PDU. The decode_deliver_report() function copies an attacker-controlled length into a stack buffer without the bound check present in decode_submit(). A compromised modem, malicious base station, or delivered SMS must reach the decoder; successful exploitation runs code as the service account.
