CVE-2023-42336Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via hard-coded root password

Published Sep 16, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Netis Systems WF2409E v4 1.0.1.705 allow remote attackers to execute code with root privileges. The firmware stores a reusable root password hash in /etc/shadow.sample, and the linked disclosure reports recovering its plaintext password. Exploitation requires network reachability to a service accepting the root account; the disclosure does not identify that service or demonstrate a command session.
