Authenticated root command execution via unescaped interface name
Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Command injection in Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.0 and earlier and pfSense Plus 23.05.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to run root commands. The GIF and GRE WebGUI pages pass unvalidated gifif or greif POST values into interface configuration functions that interpolate them into shell commands without escaping. Access to either affected page with sufficient privileges is required; successful injection executes arbitrary system commands as root.
