Denial of service via unbounded list expansion
Published Sep 8, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Denial of service in HuTool 5.8.21 allows context-dependent attackers to exhaust Java heap memory through JSONObject.putByPath. The BeanPath setter treats a large numeric path segment as a list index and pads an ArrayList toward that index without a practical bound, producing an OutOfMemoryError. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass an attacker-controlled property path; the demonstrated consequence is exhaustion of the hosting Java process, not code execution.
