Service interruption via unchecked JSONArray index
Published Sep 8, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Resource exhaustion in Hutool JSON 5.8.21 and earlier allows attackers to exhaust Java heap memory through an oversized array index. The JSONArray.add(int, Object) method pads the backing list with null entries until it reaches the supplied index without first bounding that index. Reachability requires consuming code to pass an attacker-controlled index; the demonstrated consequence is an OutOfMemoryError in the hosting JVM.
